WFH Burnout is Real: Some WFH Tips to Remedy and Avoid Burnout

by | May 30, 2022

The pandemic has more people working from home than ever before, especially in Atlanta, GA. At first, most enjoyed the new WFH arrangement. It meant less travel time, not having to deal with traffic, and the possibility of taking care of errands around the house while still getting your job done.

However, as time passes and the more people work from home, WFH burnout starts to creep in. Eventually, those who have been in a WFH arrangement for so long start feeling off and working starts to feel more like a chore than anything else.

Working from home doesn’t have to make you feel bad. Here are some WFH tips from a life coach in Atlanta, Georgia on how to prevent WFH burnout.

What does WFH burnout feel like?

Some might have experienced burnout from a previous job, but for those who haven’t burnout is a new feeling. Because of this, identifying burnout may not be that easy, especially if you’ve been in your Atlanta job for quite some time now. So what does WFH burnout feel or look like?

  • Decrease in productivity and efficiency when it comes to work
  • Trouble focusing on work and constant forgetfulness
  • Physical symptoms like headaches, heart palpitations and indigestion
  • Feeling exhausted, lazy, and unmotivated
  • Change in sleep routine. (i.e. sleeping more than usual, insomnia)
  • Feeling irritable and short-tempered
  • Experiencing constant anxiety and depression

WFH tips to prevent or remedy burnout in Atlanta, GA

Working from home doesn’t have to feel tough or hard. These are simple WFH tips to help you make your WFH experience better.

Take breaks

This might seem obvious, but it can’t be overstated how important breaks are when you work from home. It’s common for those on WFH to end up working the whole day, non-stop. This can take a toll on your health so don’t forget to step away from your desk during the day.

Breaks can take the form of a walk outside, a small snack in the kitchen, or spending time with your loved ones. Unnecessary pressure to be constantly working will eventually backfire. If you don’t pick a time to rest, your body might shut down on you and you might get sick.

\

Create a routine – and include some “me time”

As mentioned, a common pitfall for WFH employees is not having a definite schedule for when work starts and ends, even if they’re away from their physical Atlanta offices. You should create a routine for yourself to help give structure to your days.

This is a good opportunity to schedule your breaks and fit in some “me time”, however that may look like for you. You’ll end up back to work refreshed and motivated.

\

Make time for exercise

Exercise has many benefits including preventing WFH burnout. Not only will you feel physically and mentally better, but you will also get more done during the day. Exercising releases endorphins and helps you work with a clear head.
\

Re-write your to-do list

If your WFH situation has led to more work and longer hours, you can end up feeling overwhelmed, especially if you have a never-ending to-do list. Psychologists say that a good way to fight burnout is to set manageable goals for yourself.

When creating your to-do list, choose shorter-term goals that you can realistically finish within the day or, at most, within the week while working in Atlanta. Seeing large months-long projects on your list that never disappear isn’t going to give you the positive mental reinforcement that you need.

\

Set boundaries and take time off from work

One of the most important WFH tips is to make sure that you always set time for yourself. This means setting a time to stop working weekdays, actually spending your weekends away from work, and taking your vacation days.

You shouldn’t feel guilty for taking time off work. Going on vacation, away from your Atlanta job, doesn’t always have to mean being abroad for a week or two. Sometimes taking a four-day weekend is enough to give you a reset and make you feel better and ready for work.
